My name is Charisma Schwarze and I’ve been a local Las Vegas filmmaker for the past 8+ years. I’m the owner and creator of the Indie Film Factory, LLC which is a small business intended to bring together our film community and advocate quality film productions created from our independent filmmakers.
Indie Film Factory, LLC is a motion picture studio specifically tailored to the independent filmmaker, providing affordable and professional space for a rental fee much lower than other studios found in our city. We will also keep in mind what our filmmakers need, whether it be small build-able sets or by providing low-cost workshops from industry professionals to encourage growth as a filmmaker. Whatever it may be, we understand that our company is a living and breathing entity, that will change and develop over time, depending what the filmmaking community needs.
The Impact
Not only will the Indie Film Factory create and build a stronger film community, we will provide jobs in our industry by hiring local support companies to build small sets, we will need to hire administrative personnel, industry teachers, and most importantly, we will be encouraging creativity, resourcefulness and innovation in our industry. We will be building a culture within our film community that allows us to create quality content, while improving relationships with our fellow filmmakers and creating a community culture of ongoing support.
The Funding Needed and What It Will Be Used For:
This start-up campaign will be used to secure the right location to set up our first studio location for the Indie Film Factory and also help with business registration, and motion picture studio insurance, so we can cover the filmmakers who use the studio. The amount is for working capital for at least 6 months of operational costs, and it will enable us to host low-cost filmmaking workshops and panel discussions as well. In the latter part of 2012, we’re planning for steady growth which will allow us to create at least 1-2 part-time position(s), hoping to work with UNLV and/or CSN in finding those employees. We will be starting the studio smaller at first, but with a projected growth in mind. I will be using my own funds to do the green screen build out, and our first small set build which will be displayed during our grand opening event.
Full Steam Ahead:
Within the 2nd to 3rd year of successful running, we’re hoping to slowly expand our space to double the size and create a 2nd studio so we can have multiple projects going on at the same time. Within 5-7 years, we would like to be able to offer backlot studios that are specific to Las Vegas and our unique town.
